Civil Litigation: financial fraud
Prosecuted claims for breach of contract, fraud, and conversion involving forged check signature; full recovery for our client
In this case, Jeff prosecuted a claim for fraud and conversion for an elderly Korean War Veteran in a land sale contract with a former tenant. Our client’s tenant purchased the home, which was later lost in a fire. The occupant purchaser forged our client’s signature on the check, fraudulently converted the insurance proceeds, and absconded with them to another country. Jeff’s aggressive prosecution of the suit resulted in a settlement including a full return of the converted funds to our Client.

Civil Litigation: Business Torts
Jeff represented a small business which was being sued by a competitor to enforce a non-competition agreement unknowingly signed by one of its current employees. The agreement precluded the employee from working in his area of expertise anywhere in his hometown and would have required him to relocate outside Hampton Roads to find work. Plaintiff demanded a substantial from our client under threat of litigation. Jeff analyzed the plaintiff’s claims, found them to be without merit, and advised the client to refuse the offer. Thereafter, Jeff tried the case and won, resulting in a dismissal of the claim with prejudice; all while charging considerably less in legal fees than the amount initially demanded by the Plaintiff.

Civil Conspiracy Actions: International Law
As part of a four-attorney team, Jeff represented five former military service members against several members of a Narco-Terrorist conspiracy in an action to recover damages for torture, unlawful detention, and other cruel inhuman and degrading treatment under the law of nations. Jeff performed the factual investigation and legal research, prepared the draft complaint initiating the action, and assisted the victims in presenting their powerful stories of heroism to the Court. In a case of first impression in the United States, this four attorney team was able to overcome novel and complex legal hurdles to obtain an eight hundred million dollar judgment for their clients against some of the world’s most notorious atrocity criminals.

Civil Litigation: Construction Defect
Jeff defended a Navy family from an unscrupulous mold remediation company that sought to sue them for unpaid invoices when they failed to complete the work on their home in a good and workmanlike manner. During an attempted mold remediation on the property, the company first failed to follow either professional standards for mold remediation or manufacturer’s specifications when they failed to remove moisture damaged flooring, instead concealing it with floors that were installed overtop. Instead of paying the invoice, Jeff’s clients hired him to file a counterclaim against the company. Jeff won the case and obtained a judgment for the family’s costs for repairs which they collected in full.
